The Up Late Update

Last night - or this morning, really - I was up til 2:30. Unfortunately, I think it was a caffeinated-not-decaf coffee issue, but as I was lying in bed wide awake, I was flashing back to nights when I was up at the same time by choice... reading.

I know that the last book that I read waaaay past my bedtime was Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday. I like to say I simply had to finish it because someone else was reading it, too, and would need it back in the morning... but that'd be stretching the truth. I was reading late cuz I was having a blast.

I know I'm not the only one who has found themselves pushing bedtime later and later... so what about you? What was the last book that kept you up late? Seems like a list-worthy topic to me, so drop me a note or a comment and let's see what we come up with!

Adam Rex IS awesome!
Actually my writing keeps me up late at night (I have three young children, so wait til they are in bed to write). On my last in March, I was reading the Twilight series, that kept me up reading!

I was up too late last night reading The Last Olympian, the last book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. Pure fun.

It would have to be Michael Grant's Gone. Dystopia is not my genre, but this story just grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

I know everyone's gonna groan - but the Twilight books kept me up way past my bedtime the whole time I was reading he series....even the second time through. Think I also stayed up until nearly 5am with one of the Harry Potter books....4 or 5...

My son just read through the Chronicles of Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander. Each time he finished one of the books, (and I was always eager for him to finish it so I could get started!) I started reading it, staying up WAY too late because I couldn't put it down. Thank God for my espresso maker!

The Hunger Games is one of the last books that kept me up late.

I'm pretty sure the last one was The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I'd been on a two-week binge, reading several of his books while sick. Feeling lousy didn't stop me from staying up super-late reading, though...

I am ALWAYS staying up late reading! It's more the rule than the exception for me. :) But the two most recent books that kept me up extra late were The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, both of which I read last month, I think.

I know it'll be something else this month. I just borrowed Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth from my mother-in-law and I'm expecting that to be a great one.

Love this questions! Though not a kid's book - I was totally enthralled with The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I felt like I had made new friends and now I miss them!

I'm glad you got to read Adam's book. It is wonderful and funny and wonderfully funny.

Almost every book keeps me up too late because I have this wonderful habit of picking up something new to read at 10 p.m. and then I don't want to stop. I tend to read most books like people watch movies - in one session.

I lost sleep for If I Stay by Gayle Forman.

Looks like lots of good reading in my future. And no reason these have to be kids books - I stayed up late with Clay Shirky's Here Comes Everybody, for example. But it just wasn't the most recent!

Last book I really stayed up all night reading - the sun came up as I finished it - was the heartbreaking 102 MINUTES: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE FIGHT TO SURVIVE INSIDE THE TWIN TOWERS. Wow - that one hurt, but I couldn't put it down.

Lost a lot of sleep last night with the new YA book THE CHOSEN ONE by Carol Lynch Williams, which is remarkable - read it!

My most recent "stay up too late reading" book was TEAM OF RIVALS. I learned so much history from that book that no teacher had me engaged in throughout my formal education!
