My Friend Kim - a friendship poem/an androgynous poem

My Friend Kim
by
Greg Pincus

My best friend is androgynous.
Goes by the name of Kim.
Clothes and style are meaningless...
I'll always care for her.
Or him!

Sometimes I wonder "huh. What age is that poem for?" This is is one of these times....

Something's In the Air - a 4th of July poem/a friends and family poem

SOMETHING’S IN THE AIR
by
Greg Pincus

My friends have all been arguing.
My brother spats with sis.
My mom and dad
Are fighting mad
(Although I saw them kiss).

Perhaps it’s just the summer heat
That’s making tempers flare?
That could be true.
I have no clue,
But something’s in the air.

So now, today, July the Fourth,
I think a picnic’s right.
I’ll make a call,
“Come one and all,
Let’s eat and talk all night.”

I’ll post big signs about each guest,
I’ll list their flaws and quirks.
Then I’ll step back
To yell “attack!”...
And watch the fireworks.

Happy July 4th to you all (whether you're celebrating Independence Day or are, perhaps, overseas and merely experiencing July 4th as another day). For that matter, happy whatever day it might be when you read this! I've heard this Internet thang is forever, and you might just run into this another day... :-)

My Friend Michelle -- a friendship poem/a cartoon poem/a poem about a friend

MY FRIEND MICHELLE
by
Gregory K.

My friend Michelle is made of ink.
Her skin is green. Her teeth are pink.
Her right eye’s blue, her left’s maroon.
Yes, she’s a real, live girl cartoon.
When we go walking down the street,
I think we shock the folks we meet.
She always gets so much attention
Since she’s missing one dimension.
“I’m not so flat,” she likes to say,
“Although I know I’m drawn that way.”
Her friendship could not be replaced.
I hope she’ll never be erased.
While some folks keep their joy sedated,
Not Michelle, she’s animated.

I'm posting an original poem each day in April in celebration of National Poetry Month. Links to this and other poems here on GottaBook (and I post all year round, because poetry is NOT just for April!) are collected over on the right of the blog under the headline "The Poems".

My Friend Eileen -- a friendship poem and a food poem

MY FRIEND EILEEN
by
Gregory K.

My friend Eileen is made of food.
She’s always fresh and never chewed.
When we go walking down the street,
I think we shock the folks we meet.
Yes, lots of people stop and stare
And say “my word, that’s broccoli hair!”
It sits atop her apple head
With cherry eyes, so deep and red.
Her legs are herbs that grow in rows
She walks around on tater toes.
Her arms are crackers, great to munch.
She’d give you any part for lunch.
There’s nothing she won’t do for you --
Eileen is great... and tasty, too!
