Elaine Magliaro - Dinosaur Dung

Dinosaur Dung
by
Elaine Magliaro

Dinosaur dung, dinosaur doo,
Hard as a rock petrified poo…
It’s fossilized poop
You don’t have to scoop.

Dinosaur droppings
Are paleo ploppings
That turned into stones
Like dinosaur bones.

Dinosaur dung, dinosaur doo,
Hard as a rock petrified poo…
Paleontologists study it.

One of the great things about hanging out in the children's literature blogosphere is that you get to "know" folks like Elaine Magliaro. Her Wild Rose Reader blog is remarkable: reviews of poetry books, features about poets, and oh, yes, wonderful poetry all year long! The downside is that because of Elaine's range - she'll post an acrostic or, like she did last year here, a "things to do" poem, or something else entirely - I end up with this incredibly long list of poetry forms I want to try. Sigh. At least I can learn from her examples.

Dinosaur Dung, by the way, is from an unpublished collection Elaine's been working on. Having read a handful of the poems in the collection, my prediction is that it won't be unpublished once she starts sending it out. I'm excited to be able to share one of the poems here first, and I'm incredibly happy to have Elaine Magliaro here as part of 30 Poets/30 Days.

Yesterday brought us Art Space by Susan Marie Swanson. Tomorrow... Charles Ghigna with Be Still in the World. For more information on 30 Poets/30 Days and how to follow along, please click here.

Oh, that Elaine. That wonderful sense of humor comes through in her poetry. This was a fun read.
Get that collection out there,
E!

One thing I love about poetry--it can make you do a little song and dance about dinosaur dung. Honestly! Elaine can take any topic and make it fun--as if dino-poop isn't already funny enough.

Hahahah! Eeeeeew!
I'm with her on that. I can imagine a bunch of kids in a classroom totally with her on that as well.

Elaine is the most under-published poet in the world. Editors, publishers: offer her a book contract--or three!

What I love best about Elaine's poetry is the huge range of it (from silly poems with enormous child appeal to poems that really make you pause and take a look at the world). There are at least 10 different collections ready to publish in her free offerings at Wild Rose Reader.

It's a gosh darn shame that Elaine has gotten a book deal yet. She has a treasure trove of unpublished goodness. C'mon Publishers!!!!!!

I second what Janet Wong had to say about Elaine's range, and I'm a great admirer of the full spectrum. Laughed aloud at "paleo ploppings"!
