We Need Books!
by
Greg Pincus
Our entire school library’s empty. It’s bare.
It used to be full, but now look: nothing’s there.
We’ve got zero books. We’ve got zip, zilch, nil, none.
There’s nada. A goose egg. We’ve naught, nix, not one.
To help change our null set, please send something for us.
We sure miss our books – most of all our thesaurus.
The above was written as part of Ed DeCaria's March Poetry Madness (where voting is now open for the "Elite Eight" round (in which I'm still participating!). My word was "zero" which I then multiplied (which in math would give you zero, but above gives 14 by my count).

A Book for Me - a poem about books
A Book for Me
by
Greg Pincus
When what’s there on the page
Lets me feel someone’s rage,
Or the joy in the words
Makes me fly with the birds,
Or something I’ve read
Gets me out of my head,
Or the story on view
Helps me see something new,
Or the book sets me free...
It’s a book that’s for me.
The Poetry Friday roundup is being hosted by Karissa at the Iris Chronicles. Head on over and see the poetry joy.

A Poetry Re-issue: Book Report on the Dictionary
BOOK REPORT ON THE DICTIONARY
by
Gregory K.
I found the plot missing,
The dialog weak.
I kept waiting and waiting for someone to speak.
The characters bored me.
In fact, there weren’t any!
The jokes were not funny, and there weren’t too many.
The book started slowly.
The middle lacked energy.
And what type of ending is “zymotic, zymurgy”?
The authors have talent
But need to refine it...
'Cause if there's a point here, they failed to define it.
Since I promised a little retrospective betwixt my 1,000th post and upcoming blogoversary, what better poem to reprint than the only one that ever led to angry, angry mail here at GottaBook? Yes, you see, the edition of the dictionary my correspondent had did NOT have those two words at the end, and, while they understood I had taken poetic license with the concept, it was totally pointless for me to make up fake words when I could use real ones. Oh, to have sent them this link! But I didn't :-)
The Poetry Friday roundup is over at my friend Lee Wind's I'm Here, I'm Queer. What the Hell Do I Read? (a fantastic blog and resource, by the way). Go off and find yourself a poetry post to love, I tell ya!

Books From Where? -- a poem about books/a library poem
BOOKS FROM WHERE?
by
Gregory K.
This book says the world is flat.
That book says a wolf’s a cat.
That book says a peach is bread.
This book says that green is red.
This book says we drink the air.
That book says a baseball’s square.
That book says the ocean’s dry.
This book says that boys don’t cry.
These books are great, don’t you agree?
I got them from the Liebrary.
I'm posting an original poem each day in April in celebration of National Poetry Month, and I thought this one had a nice April Fools kinda touch to it to get things started. Links to this and other poems here on GottaBook (and I post all year round because poetry is NOT just for April!) are collected over on the right of the blog under the headline "The Poems".
