I'm curious if any of y'all have great read-aloud ideas for the Presidential inauguration? I'm thinking that there aren't any inauguration-specific stories ("If You Take a Mouse to an Inauguration" excepted, of course), but I'm open to being proven wrong. Or just to getting good ideas!
Wow. I don't know that I've ever thought about an inauguration as a story plot. This could be interesting ... especially if Class President-type books come into play.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a little something in Our White House: Looking In, Looking Out.
ReplyDeleteAnd there may be bits in some of the picture book biographies about the presidents.
Thanks, Kelly. In truth, inaugurations have rarely been historic or important, so it might be more the "moment in history" idea I should be thinking of.
ReplyDeleteAnd Terry -- I like the idea of class officer inaugurations. Any excuse for a party in school, I say!
SO YOU WANT TO BE PRESIDENT? by Judith St. George, illustrated by David Small has a lot of cool presidential facts and stories and fun to look at. Page 46 talks about the the Presidential oath, only 35 words! But it's wordy for a read aloud. Candlewick's just put out OUR WHITE HOUSE, LOOKING IN LOOKING OUT that has 100 or more illustrators and authors contributing that is supposed to be something to see, but I haven't gotten my hands on it YET....

You should check out Bill Madison's blog, he's got a MadLib-type do-it-yourself inaugural speech
