Poem for a New Year (or Month or Week or Day)

Poem for a New Year (or Month or Week or Day)
by
Greg Pincus

No giving up.
No giving in.

Keep looking forward
Not back where you've been.

Find joy around you.
Find strength within.

Write your best future.
No waiting.
Begin.

  1. Well, hey, Greg! Long time no see, and it's nice to have you back at Poetry Friday. How I wish it made sense to keep looking forward only, but that's a recipe for history repeating. Still, "No waiting. Begin." stiffens my resolve. Thank you!

  4. Heidi - it's interesting you took the poem that way. Or really the word "look." I get it. But I meant it in this way: as we study and learn from the past, I think we should do so for the future. Too much time, in my opinion, is spent "looking" at the past in the sense of not moving forward or rehashing it. This is true as people or when looking at history. We must learn from the past, agreed. But I believe we do so to look towards the future. Perhaps there was better word choice, however! Happy New Year to you (and to Margaret and Rita, too!)

  7. The poem makes me write a cliche, 'short and sweet' and just right, Greg. Here we go! Happy New Year!

  18. Belated Happy New Year. This poem certainly has good energy for starting the year off right. I'm reviving and old WIP that stalled and am feeling the same enthusiasm. Here's to finished projects this year.
