I Tried to Write a Poem
by
Greg Pincus
I tried to write a poem.
The words just didn’t flow.
I’d write a few
Then scratch them through
And in the trash they’d go
I gave myself a deadline…
I guess this one I’ll miss.
Time’s come and gone,
Now I’ll move on…
Since all I’ve got is this.
The Poetry Friday roundup is over at Teaching Authors today. Do go check it out (and poke around over there, too).

You tried too hard. It's a fine poem. I'm a reading volunteer at a school for children with migrant parents and a writer/poet who knows about the balled up pieces of paper that end up in the trash. I liked it Greg. Really.
ReplyDeleteRead this to my older daughter and she liked it a lot! Good rhythm, Greg -- very read-aloudable.
ReplyDeleteI can see it at the beginning of a wonderful book!
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteVery cute, Greg! Happy Poetry Friday!
ReplyDeleteI agree with TeacherDance, Greg--definitely the end--and also the beginning--of a book.
ReplyDeleteYou have such perfect control of your craft. Always a pleasure to read your stuff.
