I’m pretty well connected:
Facebook’s got my face.
I AIM and blog.
Of course I vlog.
Come see me at MySpace.
I Flickr, and I Twitter.
I wiki and Squidoo!
I’m Live. I Ning.
I’m there on Xing.
I’m really LinkedIn, too.
I Hulu, Yelp, and Google.
My YouTube channel’s hot.
I share Goodreads,
Have many feeds,
And Digg and link a lot.
Second Life and Classmates?
Xanga? RateItAll?
I’m on those four
And dozens more
Plus some I can’t recall.
I’m pretty well connected:
My friends are EVERYWHERE.
I bet I’d meet
Them on the street...
If I’d just leave my chair.

ReplyDeleteThanks, all... particularly those who used lavish praise! :-) I happen to agree that the Google link is likely to be one that sticks around. And tadmack -- having met 2.0 friends (last year's kidlit blogging conference, anyone?), you'd be surprised how easy it is to recognize someone after seeing their thumbnail picture every day. Pictureless 2.0 friends, however, could sit next to you on a bus and you might never know....
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that your poem is a time capsule, since anyone can revisit to see which links still work. I wonder if school kids make cyber time capsules with saved web pages, so their grandkids can see what antique web pages look like!

Greg - You've just made me feel very, very tired. We've set up a Ning for our Kansas-SCBWI conference goers (just finished the conference last night) and now I have to make sure they all feel "connected" not to mention re-connecting with my other networks that I've lapsed on for the last 2 days. i think I'll take the dog for a walk first. Get my butt outta that chair! You're very clever.

ReplyDeleteNot only am I unconnected but I'm becoming more so every day. My joints are disconnecting from each other and my skin is disconnecting from my bones. Long ago, my hair disconnected from the top of my head.

Dan, I'm losing some of those same connections, but that would be a different poem. (And may I note that YOU are connected to the NYTimes bestseller list, you Pout Pout Fish guy, you).

ReplyDeleteSomeone said they're resisting twitter. All I can say is that because of twitter I've attracted new clients, been invited to speak, had new joint venture opportunities and made more money. Every author should be using twitter to connect with fans, publishers and colleagues.
Just got back from BlogWorld Expo in Las Vegas and EVERYONE was using twitter and the meeting friends and followers face to face made it even better. No barriers; they were already friends from twitter.
